In 2002, Yannick Rieu launched his Non Acoustic Project, along with Maxime St-Pierre on trumpet, Daniel Thouin on keyboards, Al Baculis on electric bass, and Tony Albino on drums. “The music is free and the improvisation more unbridled, though as masterful as ever. Rieu is using electronics (sampling, reverb), coupled with solid playing, to find new sonorities. Rieu also played some of the tunes from Non Acoustic Project in the second half of a concert with American pianist Bill Carrothers at the Montreal Spectrum in November 2002.
He composed the music for Tedd Robinson’s dance show Cobalt Rouge, along with Louise Lecavalier and Marc Boivin, among others. Produced in 2004, this show will tour in Europe, Asia and South America through 2007.
In the fall of 2005, Yannick Rieu launched his seventh recording, entitled “I” is Memory, featuring François Bourassa on piano, Guy Boisvert on bass, Philippe Soirat on drums and Christian Lagueux on percussion. “This disc marks a break for Rieu; more than ever he has become a creator of musical moods. |
